The Biotz Alai choir, in the Basílica of Our Lady of Begoña

A service for Lent will take place in Begoña next Friday, March 11, organised for the sixth time by the Brotherhood of Begoña. Under the title MISERERE the event will include a cultural and religious service, and the Biotz Alai choir of from Algorta will be playing a part. Brief readings from texts related to the Passion will interlaced with various polyphonic religious pieces performed by the choir. The performance will include works by Palestrina, Medina, Rabanello, Vitoria etc. and some extracts from the Requiem Mass in D Minor by Pier Luigi Cherubini, and from the Mass in Honour of Mary the Immaculate, by Vicente Goicochea. The choir will perform under the direction of Javier Oyarzabal, their conductor since 1988, and will be accompanied on the organ by Maitene Abásolo, who has accompanied the choir on previous occasions. In the past few years the choir has performed a sacred concert in Algorta or Bilbao during the Easter period, and this year the concert will take place in Algorta on March 18 at 8 pm, in the Church of San Nicolás de Bari. After these concerts the Biotz Alai will turn its attention to preparing thoroughly for concerts it will be giving in the Balearic Islands, namely in Andratx and in Palma de Mallorca, on June 12 and 13.
