The Biotz Alai choir, in the Basílica of Our Lady of Begoña
March/03/2005
A service for
Lent will take place in Begoña next Friday, March 11,
organised for the sixth time by the Brotherhood of
Begoña. Under the title MISERERE the event will
include a cultural and religious service, and the
Biotz Alai choir of from Algorta will be playing a
part. Brief readings from texts related to the
Passion will interlaced with various polyphonic
religious pieces performed by the choir. The
performance will include works by Palestrina, Medina,
Rabanello, Vitoria etc. and some extracts from the
Requiem Mass in D Minor by Pier Luigi Cherubini, and
from the Mass in Honour of Mary the Immaculate, by
Vicente Goicochea. The choir will perform under the
direction of Javier Oyarzabal, their conductor since
1988, and will be accompanied on the organ by Maitene
Abásolo, who has accompanied the choir on previous
occasions. In the past few years the choir has
performed a sacred concert in Algorta or Bilbao
during the Easter period, and this year the concert
will take place in Algorta on March 18 at 8 pm, in
the Church of San Nicolás de Bari. After these
concerts the Biotz Alai will turn its attention to
preparing thoroughly for concerts it will be giving
in the Balearic Islands, namely in Andratx and in
Palma de Mallorca, on June 12 and 13.
