Josu Soldevilla en UK

Born in Orduna and a resident of Bilbao, even so Josu Soldevilla has been the conductor of Getxo’s mythical choir since January. Music has always been a part of his life. When only eight he was already fiddling with sharps, flats and arpeggios and from then on as a composer, choir conductor, organist, music professor and soloist: “music is within me”. The Biotz Alai offered me the possibility of working with them three years ago: “They wanted me to conduct a performance alongside an orchestra. They were very pleased with the final outcome and everything else just fell into place from then on.” He is hardworking. “Sometimes more demanding than everyone thought at first; we excercise; breathing and vocalizing…They are becoming more and more aware of how important it really is. I am willing to improve at their pace. Soldevilla knows that the Biotz Alai is more than just a choir for the people of Getxo: “I know of the relationship between the town and the choir since the age of 14. Back then I played the organ at the Trinitarios Church. Once, the Biotz Alai came along and said, move over kid, we are going to sing now.” I believe we must make the most of this relationship in order to attract young people to us: “They are the future and if we want the choir to keep on, we need them”. Hence the proposal, young people.
