PRESIDENT OF THE BASQUE GOVERNMENT HOLDS RECEPTION FOR BIOTZ ALAI CHOIR
February/17/2006
On February
16th 2006 the Biotz Alai Choir attended a reception
at the presidential central office, hosted by Juan
José Ibarretxe, President of the Basque Government or
“Lehendakari”, who thanked the choir for
the constant support they have given to Basque
culture and folklore all over the world. Similarly,
on behalf of himself and Basque society as a
whole,
he
expressed his gratitude to the choir for the efforts
they made in 1976 when, in a clandenstine and
anonymous manner, and at the request of the Basque
government in exile, they recorded a series of hymns
and patriotic Basque songs, which have
been re-released on a new CD, a copy of which the choir presented to the President.
The meeting took place in a friendly and affectionate atmosphere, and Mr Ibarretxe personally greeted and spoke to each member of the 50-strong choir.
